Firework reviews and recommendations

Review Guidelines:

In order to maintain some consistency to the products reviewed on this site, we ask that all users who wish to contribute reviews of fireworks they have tested include the following basic information:

1) Product name
2) Effect [fountain, single-effect mortar, multi-effect cake
comet, candle/barrage, wheel/spinner, firecracker/report]
3) Manufacturer/Distributor
4) Cost
5) Point of origin/sale
6) Overall value

There are currently several thousand different consumer fireworks available throughout the world. With so many items to choose from, it is essentially impossible for any one fireworks enthusiast to know the characteristics [Effect, Quality, Manufacturer, Reliability, Availability and Price] of every individual item. By no means are we claiming to be able to undertake such an overwhelming task. However, we will make every effort to provide as many reviews as possible, with frequent updates covering fireworks, both old and new, as well as upcoming releases.

Since this site is focused primarily on the Canadian fireworks market, the majority of reviews will deal with items currently available to Canadian firework enthusiasts. In reality, many of the items available in Canada are also sold throughout the United States, often under different names or manufacturers. However, in the name of diversity and fairness, reviews of items available in the United States, as well as from other foreign countries will be included to help those living outside of Canada, as well as to assist the travelling pyro in making informed selections when outside the country.

We encourage all users to share their own reviews of fireworks that they have tested, regardless of their country of origin. Please email us with your reviews and we will be more than happy to post them.

REVIEWS

AIR BOMB [aerial report](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}: $2
Always a favorite, especially for those who enjoy the firecracker style items. Decent altitude (30 feet) and a nice LOUD aerial detonation make for quick fun that will wake up the neighbors every time. Somewhat pricey, but worth it when bought in bulk discount.

GOLD COMET #5 [comet](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US):$7
If you enjoy comets, you will love this one. A HUGE gold comet with an enormous tail fires straight up to over 100 feet, arcs a bit, and fades away with golden sparks gently falling back to the ground. Don't be fooled by the drab label art, this one is a winner! A fireworks enthusiast standard.

HECTIC HURRICANE [multi-shot cake](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$15
Multi-shot cake device never before seen in Canada until a few years ago, when this item and two others were introduced. This item ejects 7 gold crackling comets to about 30 feet or so. Comets could get better altituded and sometimes break into pieces when they fire, giving the impression of more than one comet per tube. Nice crackle. Overall, this is a decent performer. Nice label art.

SOUTHERN BLUES [aerial whistle](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US}:$6
Ejects three silver whistles that take off scattering in all directions. A little bit unpredictable, so be sure to light it in an area with ample room and stand well back with your head up and eyes open. The erratic flight path of this item adds to the fun - just be careful. A worthwhile addition to any display.

THUNDERBOMB [crackling mine](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$6
The color break is nice, although somewhat small. Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there. The lift charge is too weak and thus a decent altitude is never reached. This item also claims to have a crackling effect along with the multicolor break, but the only sound I heard was the ground beneath my feet as I ran away from this piece of crap!

CATHERINE WHEEL [spinner fountain](Standard/BEM){Canada/Europe}:$2
If you enjoy small ground items, then these are worth the relatively low price tag. Ideal when nailed to a wooden post, but can be tossed on the ground for a low-level spinning shower of sparks *Tip: Nail 1/2 dozen of these evenly spaced along the length of a 6 foot 2"x4" for a nice "tower of fire" effect.*

ROMAN CANDLE [stars 5-12 shot](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$1-2
I have never been a huge fan of roman candles, although they can be fun in large quantities. The 5 shot is useless, and considering that the 8 shot is only a few cents more expensive, I can't see why anyone would buy the smaller ones. While the stars themselves are usually nice and bright, the lift charges are weak, resulting in a rather sluggish aerial delivery of about 25 feet. Best results are to build your own battery using a 1/2 dozen or more individual candles fused together with "visco" safety fuse for simultaneous fire.

HUMMEROO [fountain w/whistle](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$6(5/pack)
Emits a thin shower of gold sparks with a loud humming whistle. Produces an abundance of smoke while burning, almost to the point that this item could double as a smoke device. Place it on a wide open, hard, flat surface and watch it skid across the ground. Collect 'em all and race 'em with your friends!

THUNDER DISPLAY [mine w/report](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$22
This item sells itself based on it's massive size and great label art. One would expect a monstrous display based on it's appearance alone. Well, it doesn't. The overall effect is rather nice; a giant multicolored mine burst with a loud report. However, with such a hefty price tag, you would expect a little more.

SKY BLASTER [mine w/reports](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$4
My only real complaint with this rather inexpensive item is that is simply does not go high enough in the sky. Aside from that, the multicolored star mine is nice and the 18 firecracker reports and sharp and loud.

WILD THING [mine w/reports](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$7
My complaints about the Sky Blaster were resolved with the purchase of it's bigger cousin, the Wild Thing. Fires a giant multicolored star mine followed by 24 firecracker reports to about 50 feet in height. A great addition to any display.

BURNING SCHOOLHOUSE [fountain](HANDS){Canada}:$3
Tiny fountain sitting inside a cardboard schoolhouse. The item itself doesn't do much more than spit a bit of yellow and red flame, but you have to have one because it's a Canadian classic that has been around forever.

RACKET COMET [comet w/reports](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$7
A huge silver comet takes off at the speed light, accompanied by 24 firecracker reports. The comet reaches a nice altitude of over 100 feet and the crackers will always startle the unsuspecting. Always have a few of these on hand.

BOUQUET OF STARS [Brazilian](Caramuru/Ampleman){Canada}:$3
Don't expect much of a reaction from your audience when you light one of these. A tiny shell pops up about 50 feet and breaks open into a pathetic little burst of various colors. Inexpensive price. To be avoided.

WILD ONE [Brazilian](Caramuru/Ampleman){Canada}:$7
Fires a shell that explodes into a large multicolored floral effect, followed by a really nice report.Boring label, excellent effect. Enough said.

CRACKLING FIRE [shell](HANDS){Canada}:$7
This item looks rather small in comparison to other tubes of similar effect, but it really packs a good punch. Ejects a shell over 100 feet that explodes into a huge "crackling" burst with large red stars. This one will surely get your audience cheering so be sure to buy a few.

STAR WARS [barrage](HANDS){Canada}:$15
Large, expensive item. Unimaginative artwork. Ejects 48 red, white, and blue stars to over 50 feet. Very effective when used in bunches. Add at least one to your display to satisfy the candle lovers.

FLORAL SHELL #5 [comet/mine](Rozzi/BEM){Canada/US}:$8
Years ago I was misled into thinking this was a shell item. It isn't. Instead, it's a pitiful burst of color with a very sorry excuse for a comet that just doesn't seem to get high enough. Nasty label art. Stay away from this piece of junk.

PALM TREE [split comet](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$13
Wow! This tube ejects a spiraling gold comet that splits in two when it reaches about 100 feet or so. A very unique effect not often seen in family fireworks. The only drawback is the hefty price tag, but if you've got the money, then pick up a bunch of these beauties.

SKY RACKET #5 [mine w/reports](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US}:$6
Most people think that firecrackers are illegal in Canada, which they are, to a certain extent. As individual items, they are not permitted. However, they are legal when contained within a finished article designed to be ejected into the air. That is exactly what this item does; ejects 32 titanium flash firecrackers to about 50 feet. Ugly label. Noise lovers will enjoy.

BIG BERTHA [candle](HANDS){Canada}:$6
Large bore roman candle that ejects 4 large white comets with gold sparks to about 80 feet. Nice, powerful candle, but could have a few more shots for the money.

WHITE OUT [barrage](HANDS){Canada}:$11
Fires 8 huge white comet stars with gold sparks to about 80 feet. Nice effect. Ungodly label. Basically it's just 2 Big Bertha candles for a dollar less.

ROMAN CANDLE [candle](Kent){Canada/US}:$1
Shoots 10 red and green stars 40 feet in the air. A decent candle and the price is right. Very hard to find.

THE HALF-STICK [smoke/firecracker](Shiu Fung/Black Cat){US}:$1
Interesting concept. An oversized (3 1/2") firecracker that starts off as a smoke device, then explodes once the firecracker buried inside is ignited. The smoke is a little weak, but it's a novelty item that is worth it for the hidden "surprise" value. *Discontinued*

LE TIGRE BISON 3 [firecracker](Pyragic){France}:$3(4/pack)
Now these are some bad ass jumbo firecrackers, the kind that will cost you a few fingers if you don't throw them fast enough! The charge in these oversized (5"x1") crackers has to be 10-20 times stronger than the loudest standard firecrackers available in North America. They look like a half stick of dynamite, and perform like it too.

BLACK CAT <12's> [firecracker](Shiu Fung/Black Cat){US}:$0.25
"The best you can get" are not nearly the best anymore. While they are a good standard, and the craftmanship and label art has always remained high, these crackers just aren't what they used to be.

THUNDERBOMB <16's> [firecracker](Horse Brand){US}:$0.25
One of the most common brands of standard firecrackers available on the market. They are produced by several different companies and vary in quality. Thunderbombs are relatively unimpressive and unfortunately the quality appears to have declined significantly from it's heyday in the late 1980's. The wicks are quite short (perhaps as a deterent for individual use) and often unreliable. The overall craftmanship is poor and the label art leaves something to be desired. Next.

ELECTRIC GOA CRACKERS <32's> [firecracker](Dhosth Brand){India}:$0.05
By far the most impressive of the standard firecrackers I have every tested. The wicks consist of black powder-coated mesh string wrapped in a piece of white touch paper, resulting in a sure-fire wick that is quick as lightning and allows for a 0% dud rate. The firecrackers themselves are made in the traditional method, using old books or newspapers dyed red or green as tubes. The ends are sealed using clay plugs. The titanium flash powder charge in the 1 5/8" crackers is 2-3 times more powerful than that of anything currently legal in North America.

ROARING GLACIER [mine/comet](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$8
Large tube ejects a nice burst of aqua and a huge silver comet with loud crackling stars. Fantastic item, great effect. Search out this piece as your audience will love it. Nice label art.

BOOMER PLUS [candle](HANDS){Canada}:$11
Large bore roman candle that ejects 3 very large stars with comet tails to about 80 feet, followed by one loud report. Dreary label art. Seems to have been around for quite a while now. A little pricey, but it's always a top performer year after year.

METEOR INVASION [shell](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$9
There is nothing i hate more than inconsistency in fireworks. In 1999 this item fired a shell well over 100 feet into the air that exploded loudly into an enormous crackling "willow type" burst, very similar to what you might see at a public display. This past year, while the item still put on a nice display, the aerial burst wasn't nearly as impressive. Still a good product none the less.

SILVER SPANGLE [mine](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$4
A burst of gorgeous silver glitter stars pop out of this little tube item. A well constructed, inexpensive device made in Ontario. My only complaint is that there doesn't appear to be much of a lift charge as the stars should go somewhat higher.

VENUS FLY TRAP [mine](Big Foot/Specialized]{Canada}:$5
An impressive burst of blue and loud crackling stars. Another inexpensive, quality item made in Canada. Again, the lift charge could be somewhat stronger.

SCREAMING THUNDER 4000 [report](Specialized){Canada}:$4
Formerly know as the Sonic Boom (Mach 1-4), this item is definetely for the noise lover. Tiny device that ejects a corkscrewing, whistling comet with tail ending in a nice loud report with bright titanium flash. Altitude varies, so stand well back when using this piece. Light a few at once and transform the neighborhood into a warzone.

PINK CASCADE [mine](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$7
Large mine burst of pink stars. Neither here nor there. Seems a little thin.

CYCLONE WHEEL [fountain wheel](HANDS){Canada}:$9
I am a huge fan of HANDS wheels and this is another example of an excellent quality firework. A huge 4 driver pinwheel spraying out huge showers of golden sparks with a loud piercing whistle. Terrific.

CRACKLING FURY [barrage](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}:$13
Nice looking barrage. Too bad the performance is horrible. Ejects 32 so-called "crackling" stars to what should be at least 50 feet. Mine didn't even make it to 20. Avoid this like the plague.

CRACKLING STRIKE [comet](Mystical/Ampleman){Canada}:$7
Nice label. Ejects a large crackling comet over 100 feet into the air. Only problem is the comet seems to break up as it comes out of the tube. Interesting. Nice crackling effect.

SILVER CROWN [comet](Mystical/Victory){Canada}:$7
Huge silver comet flies up over 100 feet. Nice item, but there are far too many comets on the market. Nice label, decent price.

AERIAL BARRAGE #5 [multi-effect](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$10
Nice, large neon pink or purple tube. Ejects a comet to 100 feet, followed by a crummy burst of red and green stars with some weak firecracker reports. Thumbs down.

PIRATE'S GOLD [fountain](HANDS}{Canada}:$2
Another classic from the HANDS line of fireworks. Basically just a small cone that starts with a yellow flare, then changes into a nice shower of gold sparks. Nothing too fancy, but it holds its own and you can't beat the price.

GIANT 24" SPARKLERS [sparkler](HANDS/BEM){Canada}:$4
Oversized 2 foot sparklers. 8 pieces per pack. Burn for approximately 150 seconds. How much can be said about sparklers ? Both brands are decent and reasonably priced.

MAGIC TREE [fountain](HANDS){Canada}:$8
Large cylindrical fountain designed to be buried. Light the fuse and stand well back from this one! A huge gold and silver shower erupts to about 8 feet high, lasting roughly 30 seconds. Ugly label is more than made up for by this item's performance. Light 3 or 4 at once to create a huge "wall of fire" effect.

AQUARIUS [mine](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$8
Average single-effect mortar. Shoots what is supposed to be a giant aquamarine color star mine to about 30 feet. The ones I tested appeared to be more of an average size multicolored burst with a perhaps a little more green than usual. Somewhat thin, best used in quantity.

THUNDER & RAINBOW #5 [mine w/reports](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US}: $7
Ejects a decent size multicolored star mine followed by 32 flashing firecracker reports. Better than average, although could be improved with a stronger lift charge to get the mine up over the 50 feet it reaches now.

VICTORY FOUNTAIN [fountain](Pacific Pyro/BEM]{Canada}: $1.50
One of the better small fountains currently available on the Canadian market. Emits a large shower of gold sparks and butterflies 6-8 feet in height. Somewhat short duration, but none the less a great performer at a very affordable price. Recommended.

crackers.jpg

Victory Fountain in action. Starts out with a full force silvery gold shower (left). Ends with a willow type golden shower (right).

TIGER LILY [mine/comet](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}: $6
Small tube that ejects a nice mine burst of green stars followed with a nice orange comet that streaks to around 100 feet in the air. Comets are usually gold or silver, so it's nice to see something a little different. Inexpensive. Recommended.

SUNBURST CONE [cone](HANDS){Canada}
I remember having this as a kid in the 70's. This cone starts with a nice yellow flare, then changes to a tall silver shower. Inexpensive and great for the kids.

BAKER'S DOZEN [roman candle](HANDS){Canada}: $4
Another item I remember my father buying for us as kids. Basically it's just a roman candle that shoots 13 red stars. Not very exciting. Funny label with a picture of a baker saying "Wow, a baker's dozen!". Choose something else.

SUNSHOWER WHEEL [wheel](HANDS){Canada}: $6
HANDS makes incredible wheels. This one has three drivers that burn from gold flitter to silver and then to a loud piercing whistle. Good price, nice label, one of my personal favorites. Always a reliable performance from this piece.

HAILSTORM [shell](HANDS){Canada}: $7
Another great shell item from the HANDS product line. A loud and powerful lift charge blasts the shell well over 100 feet where it explodes into a large white twinkling floral pattern, then fades away. Again, don't be fooled by the small size of this item, its a little powerhouse.

STORM TROOPER [shell](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}: $10
The description on the label makes you think this thing will be great. While it isn't bad, it isn't good either. The shell fly's to about 80 feet and explodes into a silver and red burst with the stars then scattering out a little. Sounds good but it's just average. Nice idea though.

THUNDERBOLT [shell](HANDS){Canada}: $7
One of my favorites from the last few years. A superb lift charge blasts the shell way the heck up there where it bursts into a large crackling floral pattern with blue stars. Excellent item that the crowd will love.

RED RAIN [shell](HANDS){Canada}: $7
Like all the HANDS shells, this item has a great lift charge that propels the shell high into the air. The actual break itself is a little thin and could no doubt be improved by adding more stars to the shell. Not a bad addition to your display, but a little disappointing compared to other HANDS shells.

BRAZILIAN AQUARELLA [Brazilian](Caramuru/Ampleman){Canada}: $7
An exciting piece from Brazil. Long tube that ejects 3 multi-colored floral bursts, followed by a nice loud report at over 80 feet. Nice label art. An all around cool firework that is always popular.

STAR STORM [barrage](HANDS){Canada}: $17
Huge barrage with 91 shots, largest one available in Canada. Fires 91 multi-colored stars to about 50 feet. Fans of color will enjoy this one. Nice label. Expensive.

BATTLE IN THE CLOUDS [candle/fountain/mine](HANDS){Canada}: $9
Starts with a green flare, then changes to a battery of red stars, then into a gorgeous silver fountain, ends with a large red mine burst. Outstanding item !

TORNADO [mine w/whistle](HANDS){Canada}:$3
Neat little piece. Starts with a really loud piercing whistle followed by a nice burst of red stars. Whistle is deafening ! Interesting firework.

QUICKSILVER [cone](HANDS){Canada}:
Nice eruption of silver sparks changing to a beautiful sliver shower. Relatively inexpensive. Really nasty label.

RAINBOW BARRAGE [barrage](HANDS){Canada}: $15
Very nice barrage that fires 10 red, 10 yellow, 10 green, 10 blue, and 10 white flitte stars to a height of about 80 feet. Expensive, but very colorful, with nice label art.

MARDI GRAS [barrage](Mystical){Canada}: $15
A great barrage that fire 32 purple and pearl stars to over 80 feet. Very popular item in 2000. Stunning label art. Expensive.

CANADIAN ENSIGN [barrage](HANDS){Canada}: $11
Another quality barrage from HANDS. This one fires 12 red, 12 white flitter, and 12 blue stars to about 50 feet. Reasonably priced as far as barrages are concerned. One question: Why does and item with a Canadian name have red, white and blue stars ?

MAGIC SERPENTS [aerial whistles](Big Foot/Specialized]{Canada}: $12
Ejects 5 silver shrieking whistles that seem to fly straight up while spinning in circles to a height of about 30 feet. Not a bad item but very expensive. Stick with the Southern Blues which is cheaper by about $5 and is virtually the same item.

SILVER SUPERNOVA [comet](Big Foot/Specialized){Canada}: $8
Large tube that ejects a huge silver comet accompanied by loud crackle to about 120 feet. The crackling effect is terrific. A fine addition to any backyard display.

CHRYSANTHEMUM FLOWER [shell](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}: $7
A powerful lift charge propels the shell inside this mortar tube to well over 100 feet where it explodes into a beautiful silver chrysanthemum flower with gold trail sparks. Amazing!! Highly recommended.

BURSTING COMET [comet](New Jersey Fireworks/Ampleman){Canada}: $4
Small loaded mortar ejects a somewhat weak gold comet that appears more like a flamming orange ball. This item does have incredible height, 100 feet, which is rare for such a small, inexpensive item. Discontinued in Canada.

CHAMELEON CANDLE [roman candle](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}: $6
Shoots 8 purple stars which turn gold with a small tail (comet). The stars are small and the height varies between 50-80 feet as the individual stars peak, and then arc downwards as they change color. Decent, but hardly spectacular.

LARGE CALIFORNIA ROCKET FOUNTAIN [fountain](Po Sing/BEM){Canada}: $4
This fountain looks like an oversized bottle rocket. Emits a shower of gold sparks mixed with small silver flitter stars to about 8 feet in height. One of a kind.**Discontinued in Canada**

crackers.jpg

California Rocket Fountain in action. Starts off with a small gold shower of sparks (left), then intensifies into a full blow fountain of gold sparks with silver flitter stars (right).

MOON & STAR WHEEL [wheel](BEM){Canada}: $3
This small 2 driver wheel emits a circular shower of thin gold sparks accompanied by silver stars with tails. Nice effect, decent price. Very short duration.

crackers.jpg

Moon & Star Wheel (2 driver) in action.

ASSORTED COLOR SMOKE BALLS [smoke device](Phantom Brand){US}: $4
These small smoke devices look like cherry bombs and come 12 per pack in assorted colors (Yellow,Purple,Green,Blue). Each device produces a specific color smoke (ie: Purple smoke ball produces purple smoke). Good color to the smoke, but not terribly thick and has a very short duration. Black Cat makes a similar item which is much better.

crackers.jpg

Assorted Color Smoke Balls. Phantom Brand label (left). Purple smoke ball in action (right).

SILVER COMET #5 [comet](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US}:$7
Loaded mortar tube ejects a large silver comet that skyrockets to well over 100 feet. Always a top performer, both the silver and gold comets are often used in semi-professional displays.

SCREAMING MEEMIE [multi-effect device](Kent){Canada/US}:$5
This small base item consists of 3 separate devices fused together. First effect is a small silver fountain, followed by a shreeking whistle with gold sparks, ending with a small multi-color mine to about 25 feet. This is a unique item, albeit a poor performer overall. Discontinued.

JACK-IN-THE-BOX [mine](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$7
This item has a very nice effect. Ejects a twinkling, crackling gold star burst to about 50 feet. Very interesting, my only complaints being that I wish it went higher and lasted longer. Worth checking out.

PEONY FLOWER [shell](LongHorn/BEM){Canada}:$7
Another high flying item. Shoots a red mine burst to 100 feet. Not nearly as good as its sister the Chrysanthemum Flower, the break is off shape and far too thin.

SHOGUN <16's>[firecracker](Shogun/IoF){US}:$0.25
These premium quality firecrackers out-perform most others currently available on the US market. Nice loud report with bright flash. Each individual logo cracker has the word Shogun printed on it several times. Very decent label art as well.

LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN [mine/comet](Rozzi/Ampleman){Canada/US}:$5
Small loaded mortar tube ejects an average size multi-color star mine to 30 feet, followed by a rising ultra bright silver ball comet to 80 feet. Interesting effect.

SILVER RAIN [comet mine](Specialized){Canada}:$4
Small loaded mortar ejects one decent size burst of sliver sparks to about 50 feet in height. Picture the kind of explosive flash used at rock concerts when the singer jumps off the drum set and you got it...except this one is only half as powerful.

SHOGUN CONE-CRACKLING [fountain](Vulcan){Canada}:$3
Impressive cone emits a brief red flare followed by an amazing eruption of silver crackling sparks. Good duration. Nice label art and a fair price make this item a winner.

CARMEL FOUNTAIN-GREEN [fountain](Vulcan){Canada}:$1
This little cylinder shaped fountain packs a nice punch. Emits a vibrant shower of dancing green stars with golden burning sparks. Decent duration. Worth far more than the dollar price tag. Pick up a few.

BLACK CAT BOTTLE ROCKETS W/REPORT [rocket](BlackCat){US}:$8 (144pcs.)
By far one of the most impressive bottle rockets on the market today. Excellent quality with nice loud report. Average height of 30 feet is quite good for such a small, inexpensice item. Forget all the rest, Black Cat is the best.

SUPER POWER <16's> [firecracker](Red Lantern){US}:$0.25
Don't be fooled by these small 1" crackers, they really pack a punch. Good quality. Possibly discontinued, but worth searching for.

ROLLER COASTER <12's> [firecracker](Cassorla Bros.){US}:$0.25
Known as the connoisseur's firecracker, these set a standard which most crackers cannot achieve. Beautiful art work, excellent quality, and the added bonus of a titanium flash make these firecrackers the only ones anyone should be using. Two thumbs up!

JUMPING JACK FLASH [fountain/mine](Specialized){Canada}:$7
Strange looking item starts with a bright silver fountain to about 6 feet high, then ejects a huge mine blast of orange stars with loud crackling stars. Terrific!

MIGHTY MITE BOOMER [firecracker](Boomer Fireworks){US}:$2
A personal favorite. These small 1" firecrackers are sold in boxes of 100. Great quality, including a 1" safety fuse for reliable, safe use. Nice loud report.

MOON TRAVELLERS W/REPORT [rocket](Red Lantern){US}:$6 (144pcs.)
These bottle rockets have suffered the same fate as the Thunder Bomb firecrackers. They used to be good, but have since become a standard item made by several companies with varying degrees of quality. Of 5 dozen recently tested, no more than 10% actually gave off a report. Most would just fly off and fizzle out, the rest were duds. Complete waste of money, pay the extra $2 and go with the Black Cat bottle rockets.

LIGHTNING STRIKE [comet/burst](Patriotic){Canada/US}:$10
Large tube ejects a spiralling silver comet at the speed of light to over 100 feet, then breaks into a beautiful silver twinkling burst. A little pricey, but still a great item.

VICTORY CELEBRATION [cake](Specialized){Canada}:$28
Great looking item that ejects 6 huge blue, red, and crackling mine bursts, then ends with a flight of 3 whistles. Easily the best family firework available in Canada.

SNAPPING TURTLE [mine](Specialized){Canada}:$4
Small mortar tube ejects a giant blast of green stars with loud crackling stars to about 30 feet. Nice item.

VICTORY GOLD MINE [mine](Specialized){Canada}:$3
Tiny tube ejects a huge burst of gold flittering stars. Great effect, don't be fooled by the small size.

SNOWBALL CANDLE [roman candle](Mystical){Canada}:$4
Nice looking candle that boasts 8 white stars with tails to 45 meters. Sadly, this candle only achieved around 25 feet, a far cry from 100+ feet. Total junk.

GREEN MACHINE [roman candle](Mystical){Canada}:$4
Similar to the Snowball Candle, this item claims 8 green stars with tails to 45 meters. This one reached about 25 feet as well. Pass.

5 SHOT REPEATER [comets w/report](Specialized){Canada}:$8
Cool looking item that ejects 4 colored comets to about 30 feet, then finales with a nice, loud report with titanium flash. Decent duration. Worth a try.

5 SHOT REPEATER [mines w/report](Specialized){Canada}:$8
Another interesting looking item that fires 4 multi-colored mine bursts (surprisingly large considering item size) followed by one loud titanium flash report.

SHOWSTOPPER [cake](Specialized){Canada}:$35
Largest, most impressive and most expensive consumer firework currently on the Canadian market. Ejects 7 huge loud crackling comets to 100+ feet. Amazing. Nice to see these new gigantic items, although it's too bad our laws limit the number of shots to 7.

GOLDEN HALO [barrage](Mystical){Canada}:$9
Nice packaging. Item is supposed to shoot 24 gold comets high in the sky. This thing kinda just barfs the comets onto the ground. Avoid.

BENGAL FIRE-RED [fountain w/whistle](Vulcan){Canada}:$2
Small ground item emits a weak fountain of red sparks ending with a loud, piercing whistle. I'm not a big fan of whistles in fireworks, unless they are the aerial type. Regardless, this item sucks.

VOODOO MAGIC [shell](Patriotic){Canada/US}:$8
Updated version of a staple Patriotic item. Large loaded mortar tube ejects a giant blast of red and gold strobing stars to well over 100 feet. Beautiful effect. The label claims "Maximum Load" and I believe it. Beautiful label art as well. Pricey, but a nice addition to any display.

SILVER RAIN WHEEL [wheel](BEM){Canada):$9
New item from BEM. By far the longest lasting wheel on the Canadian market. Burns bright, emits a shower of silver sparks for nearly 2 minutes! Relatively small looking wheel, but don't be fooled by the size, this item packs a punch. Nice label art on box. Expensive, but a must for all wheel lovers.

crackers.jpg

FANTASY WORLD [fountain](Po Sing/BEM){Canada/US}:$4(4/pack)
Small fountain produces a shower of gold, red, and green sparks about 6 feet in height. Awesome colors. Very short duration. **Discontinued in Canada**

crackers.jpg

Fantasy World fountain in action. At full burn (pictured), creates a nice multi-color shower of sparks.

CARMEL FOUNTAIN-4/COLOR [fountain](Vulcan){Canada}:$1
Small cylinder fountain that emits a shower of red, green, silver, and gold sparks. Reminds me of the Po Sing Fantasy World fountain, but with a longer duration. Can't beat the price either.

crackers.jpg

Vulcan Carmel 4 Color Fountain. Mixed shower of colored sparks to about 5 feet in the air.

KILLER ALLIGATOR [cake](Brothers){US}:$10
25 shots of large silver comets to swirling whistles (buzzers), with multi-color star bursts to end. Excellent item with a very unique sound.

SATURN MISSILES BATTERY - 100 SHOT [cake](FlowerBasket){US}:$10
Fires 100 successive red and green tipped whistling missiles to about 75 feet. Missiles tend to follow eratic flight paths, scattering in all directions after their initial lift. A very generic item, but generally reliable and visually appealing.

WOLF PACK BOTTLE ROCKET W/REPORT [rocket](Phantom Fireworks){US}: $10 (144pcs.)
Phantom Fireworks house brand appears to be getting better as the years pass. These common bottle rockets prove the point. High flying with a loud report make this item better than most of those available on the market today. On par with the Black Cat brand rockets.

"QUARTER STICKS" MAGNUM SALUTE [firecracker](China){US}: $16 (100pcs.)
After the real M-80's were outlawed many years ago, fireworks companies were forced to give up their best selling firecrackers. However, they did not abandon the idea altogether. Essentially these "quarter sticks" are no more powerful than normal firecrackers, it is simply the way they are produced that gives such an appearance. Resembling the old M-80's, this item comes equipped with a quality safety fuse and claims to be water proof. The standard powder load inside an oversized tube allows for a louder report. Countless varieties available on the market, this particular brand scores higher than most.

M-90 BRAND SALUTE [firecracker](China){US}: $15 (100 pcs.)
These standard looking M-80 style salutes are actually old M-5000 firecrackers produced by World Class Fireworks that have been relabelled by another distributor. They are either old, or were never very good, because these crackers are borderline pathetic. Half are duds, the other half produce a weak report. Avoid at all cost.

M-100 SALUTE [firecracker](Mid-South Pyrotechnics){US}: $10 (36pcs.)
On par with the "Quarter Sticks" salutes, these firecrackers are an overall quality item. Standard design, with a good safety fuse. Produces a nice, loud report. Recommended.

LITTLE BIG [rocket](Phantom Brand){US}: $8 (144pcs.)
Every time I think I've found the best bottle rocket on the market, I discover a new one. Phantom has outdone themselves with their Little Big brand rockets. Excellent lift charge launches these bottle rockets well over 100 feet in the air, ending with a loud report. I can't say enough good things about this item. Highly recommended.
